What's so special about nutcrackers around Christmas time?
In about the 1600's, nutcrackers were given as gifts in Germany. It is said that nutcrackers represent strength and they watch over the family keeping danger away. They weren't originally meant for Christmas, but as nutcrackers were often given as gifts, it became associated with gift giving time - Christmas!
I collect nutcrackers, I have big ones and small ones, timber ones, handmade glass blown ones, and I've even made my own glass fused ones!
Now I bring to you tiny nutcracker earrings for the holiday season!
They have been cut from shiny acrylic, and carefully pieced together like a puzzle. The nutcracker has a shiny gold crown, boot buckles, and a very smart moustache! They are held on a backing piece with industrial adhesive. The nutcracker measures 5cm in length and are thread on 20mm surgical grade stainless steel hoops.
Please note that while no pets are permitted in the sewing studio, there is a pet present in the house.
