Myth of Origin - This myth is not about the origin or creation of the world, or about creation of humans. Instead, the myth discusses the origin of Vietnamese people. Of how Vietnamese culture came to be.
This is Âu Cơ, a mountain fairy and daughter of Đế Lai, ruler of the Northern Highlands. Her home was high in the mountains. She is often referred to as the mother of Vietnamese people.
She is shown here in both her forms, for not only did she take human form, but she also took form of a bird at times. She is in the mountains, where she is most at home. Her royal clothing radiates against her shimmery black locks, and she has a golden crown on her head.
This brooch measures 5.5cm in height and 4.8cm in width, and features several types of acrylic. A bar pin has been secured at the back of the brooch.
